Pre-Upgrade (4.2.2 -> 5.1.6) MySQL Question

Hi,

This weekend I am going to upgrade my installation from 4.2.2 to 5.1.6. I noticed the MySQL version requirement is now 5.1.5+. However, my current installation is on an older version.

When I perform the upgrade, will I be able to point it toward the old database, or is there some process I will need to follow to create a new database with the most current MySQL version, then import all my data from my current database?

Fair warning - I'm more of a DIY'er and not a "real" web guy. I'm not afraid of doing some reading and figuring stuff out, but you'll go over my head pretty quickly if not careful.

This may be a silly question (sorry if it is) but can't you just get your webhost to upgrade your version of MySQL for you?

You would have to have your hosting provider upgrade MySQL for you. You really shouldn't be running versions of MySQL before 5.1.5 in a production environment at this time.
