installation problem, stuck on step 2

I'm unable to install a fresh copy of vbulletin 5 connect
it was stuck on step 2 during the installation

Is there perhaps a timeout error in your error_logs (if you don't know where they are, ask your host)? Try removing all the tables manually and then run the install script.

Check your server's PHP error logs - is there anything in there for the time of these errors?

What version of PHP and MySQL are you running on that server?

Before upgrading remove all languages except the default english language from the system. Make sure all users are set to that Language. You can only use English at this time. Localization will be forthcoming in a future release.
