I want to add a module to my front page to show the latest posted articles, is this possible, and if so how ?
How do I customise a module to pull latest articles ?

Use a search module, restrict it to Article channels and set the other options appropriately to fit your needs. You can look at the configuration of the Latest Topics module on the default home page to get an idea. It is a search module restricted to the Forums.Translations provided by Google.
