bb code showing as raw

Greetings all,

I have a brand new installation 5.5.2. I tried posting a message, I see the raw bb code instead of rendering the intended result (a bullet list). When creating the message in editing mode, the bullets show as intended.

Showing in posted message:

[U][B]Ingredients[/B][/U][LIST][*]

(instead of a nice bullet list)

Settings for bb code images attached.

I guess it's been a long time since I setup a forum from scratch. Under the Channel Manager, I had "allow bb code" set to "no". Changed that and all is good. I'm leaving this post for my future self, so in 1 year I can return and find the answer again.
