Error when fetching phrases: Internal Server Error in footer-rollup-551.js

Hi, I recently upgraded from vBulletin 4.something to vB 5.5.1. I keep getting an internal server error upon attempting to create a new topic, which causes some browsers (Safari, Firefox) to take a very long time before one can type anything. I haven't tested Edge yet, but I hear some people can't even load the site. The site is https://roninarmy.com/ and the relevant part of the console appears to be "footer-rollup-551.js:382 Error when fetching phrases: Internal Server Error". I appreciate any insights you can provide.

An Internal Server error means that the web server is blocking the file for some reason. You need to ask your hosting provider why this file is being blocked. vBulletin won't work without that file being loaded by the browser.

Interesting! I have a query in with my hosting company (LiquidWeb). Thanks for your reply.

Wayne, they're asking if you might have any more insights into said server blockage? I can call the .js file directly in a browser, so it doesn't seem to be blocked. Does that file reference jquery? I have received the same error with both external (Google, jQuery) and internal jQuery hosting. Might I ask what the script does to "fetch phrases"? Could _that_ process be what's being blocked? (The error specifically states "Error when fetching phrases: Internal Server Error" as if it was fine with that file until that point.)

The code is requesting the phrases for your language and getting a 500 server error from the web server. A 500 server error is the most generic error available in the history of computers.

When you have cleared your browser cache, the system sends an AJAX request to the server asking for the phrases to display your page. These are stored in local storage on your device.

I don't have any other information except what you provided in the original post. Your web hosting provider has the access logs which should have the information on what caused it.

Indeed. I'm having them attempt to replicate the problem and see what is logged about it.

            Thanks!

Following up, some Modsec rules were getting triggered on the server, causing all sorts of problems.
