Signatures in posts vs. 'Latest Activity'

In our 5.5 setup signatures display normally when simply looking at a post, but if users click 'Latest Activity' to see only the latest posts for that thread, all signatures in all posts disappear.

Can anyone point me to where I can set the system to just always display signatures all the time?

    Thanks!

Signaturers do not display in 'Activity Stream' views such as the one you mention.

Thank you Mark. Is there anyway to enable them so they do show? It can be quite difficult to know who is actually responding without a signature.

There's no way to do this in the default software, it would need custom coding.
You can try asking someone who provides modifications for vB5, such as Glenn Vergara at https://vbmods.rocks.

OK, thank you Mark. I think what we need to do in order to work around this is to remove the 'Latest Activity' option and/or replace it with the functionality of 'New Posts' which does include the signatures. I assume that menu option is editable?

You can remove the tab by setting it not to display....this is done by editing the module. There is no way to change what the tab actually does.

              That will do it too.

Thanks again for your help. Appreciated.

Even if you hide the Latest Activity tab, user can still open this view if they set Latest Activity as their default Display Mode in their User Settings.

Thanks Glenn. Yes, I've seen that and it's OK as that is something they have to set themselves - we have the default 'Off' for Latest Activity.

I appreciate how well you and Mark understand the product so perhaps one of you you can help me further with this.

Our biggest problem is that in version 3.x users became accustomed to clicking 'New Posts' and then in each post, clicking 'View First Unread' which jumped them directly to the first non-viewed message. They could then continue in chronological order. Our users would like this exact same functionality in v 5.5 as it makes it very easy to jump into the forums, see new posts, and then quickly read through them.

In v 5.5, 'New Posts' works just as expected and signatures can be viewed by everyone. However we don't seem to get positioned correctly within a thread to the latest unread post. You'll just see all the posts. And if we use the 'Latest Activity' link in the thread we get a reverse chronological order of the latest activity but the signatures info is all gone again. Very hard to find where you left off the last time you viewed the thread.

I'm assuming there is a way to replicate the old functionality and if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

Signatures are very important for us as we are a technical group and the details about each user posting is extremely relevant to the conversation.

'View First Unread' works fine in vBulletin 5, the icon is to the left of the thread title.

Thanks Mark - missed that micro-icon. I assume we can add that functionality to a more visible link we can put somewhere else like next to the 'Posts' and 'Latest Activity' in the thread itself?

I would imagine so, but it would require a template edit and it may use Javascript somewhere so that needs to be taken into consideration.

Incidentally the icon is broadly similar in appearance to how it was in vBulletin 4.

We'll work on it - and we never used vb4 so I can't speak to what appearance it may have had.

But in terms of feedback, for a heavily used feature of the platform a more prominent placement and/or the ability to easily replicate the functionality elsewhere would be a good idea.

I'll post back here wiht the solution if we are able to successfully edit the template.

If your users subscribe to the topics they are participating in, then they will get notifications about new content in those posts. This takes them to first unread post simply by clicking the notification. Same if they subscribe to forums. This is a preferred behavior and allows the users to tailor site usage to their desires.

There is an option on the Notifications Tab to automatically subscribe them to topics they participate in. They can also control what kinds of notifications they receive and whether they go to their email or simply to the Notifications page within the Message Center.

Thanks Wayne. Yes, I see where that will do it also although personally I find that generates too many notifications. We're still working on getting some text with the functionality onto the thread menu bar.
