Who's Online showing fewer users than expected

    Forum says:
    There are 20 member(s) and 174 guest(s) online. Showing 1–40 of 194 users.
However, each page of the Who's Online shows far less than 40 users (see screen shot below). I tried clearing the cache but that did not fix the problem.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

This did not solve the problem. I'm not sure if Who's Online is associated with What's Going on or if they are completely separate data sources. I tried changing the number of entries to show on each module and changing the permissions of who can see, but neither fixed the issue. The Who's online list will show 15 people on the first page, 24 people on the second, 35 on the third, 5 people on the fourth, etc. It is completely haywire.

I don't see any bug fixes related to this in the last two release notes, but I know I need upgrade to latest version before VB staff can provide support. I'll try and upgrade to v5.4.5 in the coming weeks.

Try setting it to less than 40 per page. 20 is a better value. 40 is quite high and can cause the query to time out on some servers.

This has been an ongoing and a reported issue by myself. It's still listed as unconfirmed

I'm on the cloud so switching to the latest version won't fix it

Are you displaying Guest Activity? This is an option on the module.

I changed the setting to 20 per page and that did not fix it. I removed guests from the list and that did not fix anything (just showed fewer people). The first page showed 18, the second page showed 11, the third page showed 8. In a hour from now it will be totally different numbers shown on each page. The header text for page 2 says showing 21 of 40 but there is only 11 on the page. I think something is keeping certain users in cache which is screwing up the display. I dont recall this being an issue on 5.4.2 but I am not 100% sure.

                Another data point for troubleshooting.
our forum currently shows 52 members online. We have it set to show 20 per page and no guests. When I go page by page I get:
                Page 1: 20 users listed
                Page 2: 16 users listed
                Page 3: 6 users listed

                Total: 42
So not only does the system not show 20 per page, but it is showing only 42 people while the system reports 52 members are online.
