    Converting forum to https

I am a technical novice and was reading this thread on the subject as I would like to try and convert my forum to https.

    https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/arti...forum-to-https

I have a question about this......

Once you have changed these settings, go to AdminCP > Maintenance > General Update Tools, and rebuild the styles. (In vB3 this is AdminCP > Maintenance > Update Counters). Leave the default settings and just run this update tool.

What does running this update tool 'rebuild the styles' actually do? I have a custom look to my site, different colours, sizes etc. which I wouldn't want to lose. I'm assuming running this tool won't take the site back to the default appearance?

    Thanks.

That option simply rebuilds the styles from the existing templates - customised or otherwise.
It doesn't remove any customisations, that's a different operation (revert templates).

I think I may have done some work on your site a while back. Do you operate a scrapbooking site? I seem to recall you had a custom gallery and we had an issue updating the vBulletin software to the most recent version. Are all of your gallery images hosted locally? You're going to have mixed content issues if they are hosted by third party photo hosting.

Yes that's me Michael, you did some work for me for which I am very grateful. I did send you a PM before I posted this question. Yes most images are hosted locally, and the few that are not (perhaps put there by members), it won't matter if they show up as broken images. I'm sort of having second thoughts about doing this as there would have to be changes in the linked Photopost gallery and I'm a bit nervous about that all going wrong. I'm still running Version 5.2.1 as the last time this was upgraded the gallery went pear shaped and so I had to revert to the back up before the VBulletin upgrade.
