    Occasionally photos won't show

Occasionally photos show with a little icon like a picture with a folded corner, rather than the photo any idea why?

I've asked the member what steps they took to add the photo and am awaiting a reply but in the meantime wondered if anyone knew why.

It's happened on a few occasions now, to different members but the members themselves can see the photos in the threads, it's just others who can't, including admin.

This is what one user said they did:

I created the photos by using the Microsoft snipping tool from the e-mails that the converter had sent me and saved them as .jpg files.

In the post I typed some text and then pasted inside quotes the words from the converter.

To upload the photos I did the following:

    Click on PaperClip
    Click on Upload Attachments
    Click on Open
    Click on Medium
Enter a couple of blank lines after the photo
Click on Upload Attachments and repeat process for each photo

I did try to preview the post, but it didn't seem to work so I abandoned that and came back in and just posted it.

Do you have a link to the issue? When you click on the "Missing" icon what happens in the browser?

        Nothing happens.

        It's post 16 in this thread https://community.smallmotorhome.co....nversion/page2

The strange thing is the member can see them, but no one else can.

Another member had the same happen, different section/thread I've asked what they did to add photos but they haven't replied yet.

I don't know what happened but his attachments were not properly uploaded to the post and cannot be displayed. Seems like he actually tried to drag and drop them instead of using the attachment system. The reason he can see them is the browser cached them from the failed attempt at the drag and drop.

To insert an image in to the post he has to use the links in the attachment panel or the "insert image" tool in the editor's formatting menu.

I don't think so, he said he used the attachment option:

            Click on PaperwithClip icon
            Click on Upload Attachments
            Click on Open
            Click on Medium
Enter a couple of blank lines after the photo
Click on Upload Attachments and repeat process for each photo

It only happens occasionally so no major problem. We'll have to see how it goes.

            Thanks Wayne.

When I log into your site and edit the post, there are no attachments on it. All the URLs for the images have temp node ids, which is what they have before the post is saved. Also the thumbnails are listed as Base64 which indicates that someone tried to drag and drop. That isn't supported. I can only report what the evidence says.

When you follow his instructions on a new post, do you have the same problem?

All of this code in the post is wrong. It is what is supposed to load the images.

                    That's fine Wayne, I don't doubt you.

The instructions are what we always do and it works OK. It's more likely he thinks he did it that way but actually tried to drop it in, if that's what the evidence points to.

Just as a follow up Wayne, he managed to upload the photos again in new posts, in the same thread this is what he says:

Firstly, the photos were not dragged and dropped, it would never have occurred to me to do that. I was successful with photos the week before and thought I'd done exactly the same.

I could see the photos just fine on the machine I uploaded them from and on my mobile phone and on my work laptop.

I had snipped the photos (using the Microsoft snipping tool) to create JPG files as I've been told in the past this produces a smaller image file which is better for e-mails, web sites etc. All you do is bring the photo up on screen highlight the area you want and save it as a file (kind of like doing a screen dump).

For the subsequent photos in the 4 separate messages that did work I saved the original photos from the supplier's email and uploaded the files in exactly the same manner (only difference should be that the files were much larger and I did just one photo per post).

Don't worry about spending too much time on this Wayne, I know you are busy with the latest vB version and it is only an intermittent thing that happens, although it would be interesting to know why it happens. It even happened once to an established member who uploads photos almost every week so knows what he is doing.

The only variable would be the snipping tool. Maybe it is making corrupted images due to proprietary tags. Microsoft does that a lot. Maybe just save the image attachments from wherever they are obtained from and upload the original sources or use something that is more standards compliant like Fireshot or Snagit.

OK cheers Wayne, will keep and eye on things and suggest he doesn't use that. Still waiting on the other member as to what they used. As always, thank you so much for your help.

                      Wayne,
Here is another instance of what I believe Mrs.T is having an issue with. The thread I linked below has 7 pictures in post #1. Some users see them but others do not. Any ideas why this is happening periodically?

(You have to be logged into our site to view pics)

I see them so i’m going to make a post showing them for the others. (Post 10)..Is this a setting thing? There is a little box at the bottom with an invalid link to see the admin!

                      https://www.vintagefordforum.com/for...all-in-the-vff

if I look in that users media album it shows 14 posted pics but none of those show up if I click them. Is there an issue with the way this user put them on? This has happened many time before in the past

I asked my user what he did and was told that he copied and pasted them from his computer files. I hope I didn’t hijack this thread, I was thinking it could be related.

YOu cannot copy and paste images to the editor. This is the same as drag and drop.
