Upgraded to 5.4.0 and broke some forums

I upgraded to 5.4.0 and now two of my forums don't work.

All the other forums work. Any ideas? Is there something I can run to rebuild this?

You need to ask your hosts to increase the php memory limit. 128MB should do it but it depends on the server.

I just moved it to 512MB. That fixed it. Thanks!

It's something you will need to liaise with your hosts about. The page isn't loading because there are too many posts and the server cannot process what it needs to do.

It could be that 128MB may still not be enough, or it could be something else, such as a MySQL limit. (mysql_wait_timeout is one). The server error logs should tell you more.

See this identical case from a few days ago:

I don't know why, but all my forums with a lot of post take a long time to load even though they are loading the same amount of post for each page. Something happened to my site with 5.4.0. If a forum has less than 1,000 posts it doesn't take long to load. Large forums take a long time. I moved the php limit to over 3 GB.

It will depend on your settings and server configuration. Are you using Memcached with your site? Is your database using MySQL 5.7 and INNODB tables? Are you using PHP 7.1 or higher?

I'm running it on a dedicated windows server with PHP 7.1 and MySQL 5.7. I spent a lot of time fine tuning it a year ago to speed everything up and it worked great until 5.4.0.
