I believe 5.4.0 is Alpha and not recommended for live sites. Your best bet is inquiring on 5.3.4.

        You can upgrade to 5.3.4.

However, it's important that you only undertake major upgrades for the right reasons, or you could harm your community. vB5 is very different software to vB4 and is not simply an incremental upgrade.

What is the problem you wish to solve by upgrading?

While there is wisdom in the saying, if it isn't broken don't fix it. I can't understand why anyone would want to stay with a platform that has reached end of life. I'm sure you're going to get quite different responses and opinions here as to what you should do.

My recommendation, do it on a test site and keep a really good back up of VB 4. And familiarize yourself with https://vbmods.rocks/ which may open up VB 5 to any customization.

It depends on how heavily customized and modified your forum is. In general, I agree with William Thomas Jr above but the real question is:

How do you want to "improve" your forum and will vBulletin 5 accomplish that?
