Article Preview Image issue

In the past couple of days I've needed to edit the content of some of the articles posted on our site. These articles have a .pdf version of themselves as an attachment. On each of the edited articles, the preview image shows only the missing document icon. It appears that VB is trying to display the thumbnail image of a .pdf attachment, for which there is no thumbnail. The issue can be seen at the link below and is only occurring on the articles I've edited in the past few days:

I wasn't able to find anything in tracker that matched this.

I refreshed our development site this morning and it has the same behavior. On our development site, if I add an image to one of the affected articles there is no change. If I add an image and remove the .pdf then the added image shows correctly as the preview thumbnail.

Any ideas on how to get the correct thumbnail to display, or no thumbnail if there are no attachments other than a .pdf?

This is a known bug at this time...I'll try to find the bug report later.

However it was actually fixed in 5.3.1 and I suspect the fix didn't cover edits.

It may be worth raising a new bug referencing the one above and explaining the issue you are seeing.
