    Strange ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS problem

I notice no threads load from this category anymore https://forums.hosting/forum/other-f...hosting-lounge
    This page isn’t working

forums.hosting redirected you too many times.

    ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
Not sure how long it has been like that, but I noticed it today when I was about to reply to one of the latest threads. Other forums seem to load fine.

I am using default .htaccess but it made no difference.

If I move all threads from Web Hosting Lounge to Industry news then all threads load fine, just not from the Web Hosting Lounge for some reason? How can check what is causing this?

    Thanks,
    Chris

There isn't enough information provided to know what the underlying problem is.

You can try rebuilding the routes with tools.php. Upload it to your /core/admincp directory and access it via /admincp/tools.php. Then run the Route Fix tool on the page. You will need to upload your /core/install directory for tools.php to work. Delete both when done.

I fixed it a different way. I moved all the threads from the category to a different category and deleted the old category, recreated it and then move the threads back to the category. A big :| ... but that fix it.

I noticed the problem on a different category. It seems to do it on two different categories where I have changed the name/URLs in the past. What is strange is they have load fine for many months and all of a sudden they stop loading and return too many redirects error. That is pretty crap of vBulletin to do that. I really should just move to the actual popular software already. These bugs are so annoying. I have not got time for correcting such nonsense.

If the forum does not allow owner to change the name/URL without it breaking stuff then do not allow it in site builder etc *bangs head off brick wall

If you changed the URL of a channel, the system creates a redirect in the routenew table for it. This will happen each time you change the URL by editing the page. If you do this often enough then you get a lot of redirects. If you change it back to the original, then the redirect will redirect to its original location... Continually.

You can manually delete the redirects for that channel from the database. You can find the current URL in the record's prefix field. Then the you would have to trace the redirects in the redirect301 field to find them.

Seems like a bug that needs a JIRA. At least to prevent the issue in the future.

                  Hi,

It doesn't matter. I moved the thread I needed and now everything seems to be working properly. I won't bother renaming the channel or categories from now if it is going to cause that.

Hopefully, it will be ok now.

                  Thanks,
                  Chris
