You can get rid of it completely by editing the page and simply deleting the module.
There is no way to make it collapsed by default though.

There is no trash icon to get rid of the module as attached.

Ah I see, it's on the actual blog page...
In which case it's a default module and cannot be removed, sorry.

You can hide it via CSS. Can't post the CSS though as I'm on my phone and can't inspect the HTML.
