Moderators have access to all private forums.

There are three moderators who have access to all of the active bulletin boards I have rather than just the usergroups they are in. Does this have something to do with Administrator access? Because I say all Yes to Administrators permissions. The moderators are more restricted. Is there a difference between between Moderators and Channel Moderators?

Thanks for your help. I you need my url and credentials I can send that to a VB Support person in mail or something.

You need to use AdminCP > Channel Management > Channel Permissions to block access to those forums to any usergroups you don't want to see them.

Moderator forums are not linked to the moderator permissions themselves.

      Mark,

Thanks. What is a Channel Moderator? Is that what I should be using to give my moderators their permissions?

They are used for specific channels such as within blogs and groups.

The usergroup to use for a normal forum moderator is called simply 'Moderators'.

          Mark,

These 3 moderators are moderators of many channels. How do I make sure that they have access to just the ones they should have access to. I have other moderators who actually should have "Moderator" permissions to channels. I don't want to get rid of them, I just want these three to have access to only the forums they should have access to. Their usergroups don't match.

          Thanks,

          Sherry

When you say 'have access', what do you mean?
Do you mean access to moderate? Or access to view?
Obviously, moderators can be moderators of some forums and not others, but can still view forums they don't moderate.

If it's access to moderate, then it's:
AdminCP > Channel Management > Channel Manager
For the selected forum, use the dropdown on the right and select 'Add Moderator'
Once moderators are added, you can control what each moderator can do in:
AdminCP > Channel Management > Moderator Permissions

              Thanks Mark,

We run highly confidential channels and we don't want some moderators to view or open channels they don't moderate. Right now I have 3 moderators who can see and open channels they don't have privileges to see or use. They are in the usergroup Moderators, but I don't want them to see or open those other channels.

As mentioned, you have two completely separate permissions to sort out there.

                1. The 'access to moderate' instructions I posted previously, which give them access to moderate a channel / forum.

                2. Then if you have channels you DON'T want them to access, you need to deny them viewing permissions in:
AdminCP > Channel Management > Channel Permissions.

Here's where it might get complicated, because you can only deny viewing permissions on a per usergroup basis, so if you have different forums to block from different moderators, you're going to need to make identical copies of the 'Moderators' usergroup - name them in a way that identifies what they do - and then set the viewing permissions accordingly. Then put the relevant moderators into the relevant group. This part won't affect the 'access to moderate' part, which is handled outside of the actual usergroup permissions.

Thank you. Now I understand what to do.
