Forum Category Spacing

I want to tighten up the category headings on the home page, such as remove the grey shading above the categories <colspan> and tighten up the distance between category headings.
Ideally I would like to do it in css_additional.css and not in the Template if possible.

Inspect the element in the browser dev tools to see the css classes used.

Thanks for that, I entered the code and could alter borders, padding etc, but couldn't see any way to remove the 33px high grey shading above each category header <td colspan="4"><span class="category"></span></td>

I found the code in global.css and entered it into additional.css and changed 33px to 0px

.forum-list-container .category-header {
background: {vb:stylevar primary_module_subheader_background};
height: 33px;
}
