Can you have "Display Name" in vBulletin?

We have a vBulletin forum that was updated from 3.6 to 5.2 last year and in our old setup we had a custom field for Display Name that was used instead of the username.

I want to know if it is possible to do this in vBulletin 5.2 also and if so how?

    Thanks in advance

Do you want to use the display name across the site where usernames are displayed? Or do you want to use display name in the postbit section in a thread/topic page only?

You cannot do a Display Name without custom coding and editing templates.

In the latest versions of vBulletin 5, you can set the log in system to use the user's email address and then the username would be a secure display name.

Thanks for the info Wayne. I will not go the custom way so I will have to get used with not using the Display Name.

We implemented the login by email for security purposes and this makes the username a display name. Users can change their email as needed. Having an extra field for display name never received any community support as evidenced by this JIRA - http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-5307
