Couple of questions from a newbie.

So, as noted in the title, I'm a newbie when it comes to being an Admin on a forum and while I've managed to figure out a lot of things for myself there are some that I'm stumped by. Obviously this could be just me being stupid and overlooking something in the control panel,
    • vBulletin Version: 5.2.2
    • PHP Version: 5.6.23
    • MySQL Version: 5.6.29-log

    1) While uploading smilies I had an issue with one and needed to delete it. When I went to reupload the same smiley, it said it couldn't do it because the file name already existed. So my question is; where do I go to properly delete it from the forum? I know that I can just alter the file name but the issue is bugging me and I want to know one way or another.

    2) We have a Support Team in place and while they do have access to certain areas, they cannot edit titles in those areas. Is there a permission for this that I may have overlooked?

    3) Is there a way to exclude threads or sub forums from showing up in the new content section?

    4) When receiving an email notification about messages, they are filled with HTML surrounding the actual PM. I'm not sure what's going on here, so any clue would be helpful here.

    5) The first edit of any post goes well but any subsequent edits do not show up. It just shows the first one and doesn't update. Is there an option that I've overlooked.

I kind of figure that some of these may well be simple things and I apologise if they are.

    Thank you for any help.

    1) You need to delete the existing smilie from the interface and the file from /core/images/smilies or the custom directory you specified.

    2) What kind of titles? Topics? They need the "Can Edit Topics" permission. You set this in the AdminCP under Channel Management -> Moderator Permissions.

    3) You can edit the search module and make sure the containing channels are not included in the search results. If you mean something else, please clarify.

    4) Can you provide an example of the email?

    5) They should show. Do they not show if you refresh the page? Are you using some sort of CDN like Cloudflare?

      Thank you for responding.

      1) I'm sorry for sounding stupid here, but is this something that only the 'owner' can do? As they were the ones who set up the forum. Or can I access it? Because I've looked and cannot see an option. I know I need to contact them regarding the Admin Permissions Manager, so if it is something connected to that, then I know what I need to do.

      2) Yes I did mean topics. Sorry about that. Is it possible to allow them to edit titles only in certain sections or is this an all no or an all yes kind of thing?

      3) And once again, I'm sorry but where is the search module? Is it the one in the options section?

      4) This is one of the messages,

<span style="font-size:14px;">Could be the default you are getting is from vbulletin. Some of these hosts do strange things and never tell anyone. ProBoards used to screw up all the time. I am going to make this bigger so it is easy to read.<br /> <br /> Hope you slept well. It's still an hour before dinner here on the East coast of the US. <img alt="open flower penflower:" smilieid="35" src="core/smilies/0/0/2/5/6/7/images/smilies/openflower.gif" title="open flower penflower:" /><img alt="open flower penflower:" smilieid="35" src="core/smilies/0/0/2/5/6/7/images/smilies/openflower.gif" title="open flower penflower:" /><img alt="open flower penflower:" smilieid="35" src="core/smilies/0/0/2/5/6/7/images/smilies/openflower.gif" title="open flower penflower:" /></span>
      5) Even with refreshing, it just shows the first edit. And as far as I'm aware there is no CDN being used. I will re-check this tomorrow to make sure but I'm about to get off the PC for the night right now, so it will have to wait for a while.

        1) Yes, you would need access to the Smilies in the AdminCP and direct access to the server.

        2) They would only have permissions for the channels they have been assigned as moderators. Unless you make them Super Moderators by putting them in the Super Moderator usergroup in the AdminCP.

        3) The search module would be on the page that is showing the results. All modules are handled on the front-end via Site Builder. If you have permission, click the "Edit Site Button" and then choose Edit Page to configure the modules.

        4) Does the site allow posting in HTML? Emails are sent as plain text and the HTML doesn't appear to be stripped out here.

        5) More information would be needed here. In addition to the CDN, is the site using the default .htaccess file? Does it cache PHP results? The site owners or server administrator should be able to help with this.

Thank you so much for all your help, it is appreciated. 1, 2 and 3 are now resolved.

          4) We do have HTML BB codes (but only a couple as far as I'm aware) and aside from that, I don't think so. I've checked permissions for all our user groups and all of them have HTML turned off. HTML in private messages is turned off, would I need to turn anything else off? Or on?

          5) I'm in discussion with the 'owner' at the moment and I haven't had a chance to check settings. Topside got rather busy.

Would have to see the entire context of the email in #4 to provide more information.

I confirm the HTML in PM emails issue. I consistently receive PM email notifications with <br>'s in the message right from this forum.

What exactly do you mean here? I've provided the entire email, so not sure what else is needed.

Another question; I know that a calendar can be added but it is public to everyone. Is there a way to add a calendar that can only be viewed by members of the forum?

What calendar? There is no Calendar feature in vB5 (yet).

A calendar can be added via Google, unless this no longer works of course.

I see. I know that but I thought you were referring to a native Calendar feature.

To answer your question...Since it's a third-party calendar that's just added to the forum using <iframe>, there's no way to make the events private for forum members only. The calendar is not integrated with the forum and is running independently on its own and the forum has no control of it.

Oh no, sorry for confusing you. And thank you for the information regarding the calendar.

I've been told by several members that it isn't just the PM email notification that is filled by HTML. It seems to be showing up in any email notifications, so PMs, replies to subscribed topics etc.

There are some changes coming in 5.2.4 that will help prevent HTML in emails.
