    Deleting or Removing Redirects

    Hi there,

I'm new to operating a forum so please excuse any basic questions.

I had a couple of users post a message in the wrong forum section, so I "moved" topic to the correct forum and left a permanent redirect.

I'm kind of annoyed by seeing these redirect messages in the wrong section. So my questions are:

    1. How do I delete the redirect? If I delete the topic from the old location (that has already been moved), will it delete where it is now (which is in the correct location) as well?

    2. For the future, if someone posts in the incorrect spot, can I move it to a new section and have a message sent to the user privately saying that his post has been moved to <name of new section> ?

    Thanks, Dov

    1. In the topic, click the cog icon at the top and select 'Remove Redirects'.
    2. No, the software doesn't have this functionality. You'd need to do this manually by sending them a PM.

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. I noticed tried that before actually, but nothing happens at all. That's why I posted in here. I have two different redirects and both times doing the above does nothing. Any suggestions?

Looks like this is a known bug.

No fix time at the moment, it's not being worked on as things stand.

On my forum, I select the checkbox for the redirect and in the inline mod menu select delete, then permanently delete. This removes the redirect. The thread that was attached to the redirect is still in the new location.

Hi Replicant, I just tried that now and it deleted the topic and the topic in the new location. I selected permanently delete like you suggested. Maybe I did something wrong?

This is weird, on my site I can just permanently delete redirects like I can any other topic- On the topic display page check the box next to any directs I want to delete, go to the tools on top, Delete Topics, then choose permanently delete, and the redirects are gone and the original topics (that were moved) are fine.

I also have a number of redirects that I would like to delete. I don't see any option to do this when I click on the gear icon. What am I missing?

Try it with one topic first, the most unimportant one, just in case, but for me if I go to the forum that has the redirect (not the real topic) and select the redirect and choose to permanently delete it, as if I was deleting a topic, it deletes fine. See post #10 in this topic.

In vBulletin 5.3.3 and higher, you will be able remove redirects on a Channel by Channel basis in the AdminCP under Node Tools -> Prune Nodes.

Finally got back to this and it works. Thanks!
