VB5 all the posts always show the icon "contains unread posts" even though they are days old. Do I need to change a setting?

What do you have set here?
AdminCP > Settings > Options > General Settings > Topic/Forum Read Marking Type
You want it set to "Database (automatic forum marking)".MARK.B
