I think it is set to ten by default, I would like to increase it to about fifty. I found info where this setting should be on the Internet, but it is not there in the new vBulleting. I could not find it under Usergroups settings also.

You do that in the frontend. Browse to the forum you want to change the number of topics for and click on "Site Builder (toggle "Edit Site": On) > Edit Page" and edit the "Channel Display Module". Under "Topics Results per Page", which is 10 by default, you can enter your own number. Don't forget to save the new settings. Done.
