The error on my demo site has nothing to do with what is being described - it relates to the KeyCaptcha third party plugin which is faulty (and therefore currently disabled).

Is there a way to disable it? How do I raise it as an issue?

I'm not entirely convinced there is any bug in vB5 that relates to this.

The errors you were having are not standard vBulletin errors and related to third party modifications and custom configurations.

It's the encryption - how can I link to the registration page?

The link to the registration page on your site should be: http://www.era-go.com/forums/register
