Will vBulletin run in SSL ( https ) as it is, or would it need to be altered?

Should run fine. If you look at the address for this page, you'll see we're running in HTTPS.
In vBulletin 5, you can tell it to run the login scripts in HTTPS while running the rest of the site in standard HTTP. You can specify the login URL within your presentation config.php file (/config.php).Translations provided by Google.
