I notice the paging is done without new page load. will google be able to index each page of a thread or will we lose that indexed content?

For two reasons yes, It will be indexed :
1- Google is currently able to index the ajax content like what is done with facebook comments which are rendered in AJAX and only visible via POST requests.
2- Google can index your threads or all of your nodes directly via the unique URLs from sitemap.
So in the two ways, Google can crawl and index your vBulletin 5 Connect nodes.

The root is a forum directory. There are no page 1 and 2 on it. Not sure what you're looking at but the Demo was updated a while ago.
Going over the tabs, I do see those URLS. There is still some work to be done though.Translations provided by Google.
