    VB5 Smilies not Working

The smilies in VB5 have not worked since my upgrade from VB4. What is the quickest way to just load default smilies. I don't need anything custom.

When you go to AdminCP > Smilies > Smilie Manager, do you see Generic Smilies as one of the smilie categories?

You'll need to provide what Zachery requested in post #2.

There are a few broken links on this page. http://www.valvereplacement.org/foru...question/page2. And (hopefully attached to this post) is a screenshot of the generic smilies that aren't present in my AdminCP as well. Click image for larger version

My broken images point to the standard smile folder (see attached image), where I can see the images. But for some reason they don't work in my forum..

Try adding core/ to the front of the URL.

I know that's going to be a pain if you have loads of them.

I have the same issue, I have generic smilies and I updated all of those paths, but the default smilies in the core directory appear all broken in the reply windows and I can't find them in the Generic Smilies on the admincp. Any idea where these might be stored so that I can update their paths? I'm guessing it's directly in the database. This issue appeared when I upgraded from vb4 to vb5.1.3

Smilie paths can always be updated via the admincp.

If you're having difficulty, please raise a support ticket, we'll need admincp and ftp access. We can probably sort it out quicker that way.

vb5 doesn't have it right. They're originally installed into the /core/images/smilies folder but that's either the wrong folder or vb5 has a configuration error.

If you copy the smilies folder to the /images folder that's inside your root vb5 directory they'll work. Same with the post icons, by the way...

You have to duplicate them then...

The frontend (user pages) looks for the images in /core/images/smilies. The AdminCP is more literal and looks for them in /images/smilies. It is due to the legacy code of the AdminCP. For the images to work for the end user with the lowest amount of hassles, they should be placed in /core/images/smilies.

That's good to know. I did replicate the smilies directories in both places, and with more than 200 available, I'm thinking I really don't need to add any more....

I resume this old discussion to reiterate that I had the same problem, I followed all the replies, but in the end I had to insert smilies are with the extension .gif otherwise they were not displayed and I do not understand why. The same thing in the admin panel, I had to select gif and not png to display the admin panel icons. However, I would like to specify that ALL the images with the extension .png are not visible and to view them I have to change them to .gif, but for the future it would bother me every time there is an update always change the file extensions, as it could be solved this problem? I have verified that the server has enabled .png images.

This site uses PNG images for the smilies. PNG files are also used for the default smilie images on every installation. Though, these are becoming obsolete as people would rather use Emoji these days. Emoji provide more a more expressive range and are easier to use on all devices.

Without seeing the problem in action, I have no idea why you think you can't use PNG files.
