Setting it up so users can subscribe to threads and get email notifications

Version 5.05
Users are subscribing to posts and complaining that they aren't getting emailed when someone responds. How do I set this up, or how do I direct them to set it up? I can't for the life of me find it, though it's probably right in front of my face.

As both issues are in the developer backlog currently they are not being worked on at this moment.

Before the version upgrade some email notifications were working. Now all stopped including notification to the admin after someone registered. The words above does not look promising that the issue will be sorted soon. Is there a way to reverse the last upgrade to an older one so at least we get some of the email notifications working? Thanks

Emails work if you start the thread. But if you don't start the thread, yet subscribe to it, you don't get an email. So that's what the issue is narrowed down to. Good to see it's on the list. Hate that the three things I have on this list is so far down it.

^Completely agree. This is going to be a difficult problem for us going forward as we implement this solution for our clients.
