Where is all the traffic gone???

Since I've upgraded to 5.0.3 from 4.2.1 all my traffic is gone. No Google indexing, no visitor traffic... nothing. We use to have over 30000 visitors a month, now only 6-7 a day...
Is that because sitemap is not working?

No its because vb5 isn't friendly to google. vbulletins own site is tanking in the rankings and I've pointed it out to them, but they insist there are other factors at play. so ita just wait and see how many people have a smooth transition SEO wise with vb5.

I am using Google Analytics and Bing Webmaster Tools. Both are giving me loads of errors on crawling the site. The big thing is that the sitemap is missing. It is like driving in the middle of nowhere with no GPS...

You need to remap all links from 4.2 to the new situation, but even then you will take an hit.

The system should automatically remap them. Routes were built for this specific purpose.

What analytics are you using? What are they saying?

Wow! Your graph shows a complete drop off from that date....Rather abrupt.

When you visit your old links to your site what are the results? What was your linking strategy to get people to your site via search engines?

Wayne, I don't know what you mean by "linking strategy". The links seems to point into the right topics/posts. I did not change any strategy. the only thing I did is to upgrade to VB5.

VB5 is installed in the root directory.

You don't have other sites linking to your site? External links is a big part of getting and keeping traffic. If your links lead to index.php then you would need to rewrite that with a 301 to the root of your vB5 site. If you were using custom links through a tool like vBSEO for internal links, you would need to rewrite those to vBulletin 5's URLS.

Even internally, there were different link options to build how your URLS worked. These should redirect to their vB5 counterparts but without knowing what link structure you used, it is difficult to test.
