Just saw the,"paid subscriptions" portion. I have many, and will need to wait until they can be ported over.Comment

Product is a product, I think its not good to release new version without main feature's which we have in VB4.
You don't buy car without one wheel hoping that someone will fix it in few months.
So I will drive an old car and wait that my favorite car company fix everything and than I will purchase. Or if I dont like it maybe I will just keep old car for a long time.👍 1Comment

My site (which is the online front end for my brick and mortar business) depends on both paid subscriptions and the CMS. If they are not included early enough or in properly working order then I won't be upgrading and I'll be looking for another solution when time comes to make changes. The idea that they can piecemeal the new version out and leave users hanging that bought into the suite and have actually based their site around the full suite leaves me to believe that 5.0. They should have spent more time finishing the entire product instead of releasing a half assed and unfinished piece of garbage (again) in another money grab, which is how this all feels to me.
And what happens to our google links if we were to upgrade an not have the CMS pages available? Suddenly does our site go down in the search rankings? It's looking more and more like I should have kept my content in Joomla.Last edited by markwein; Sun 16 Sep '12, 9:06am.MWGLforums.com - Free Video Guitar Lessons and more!Comment

I think the idea behind the new release is to charge advanced funding to help finish the software. It's a risky game to make such a big change and spend all the money without knowing how many people will pay for it.... or if they will even like it. In one way, I like the idea of having some input into the development of their future products. In another way I am a bit disappointed that it's being released so soon with about half of the useable functionality. In either case, the team has been very open about their plans to release everything within a year.
$250 will get you all future software updates, so, this isn't a problem for me. However, I am more nervous about this new plug in module system and the lack of included modules like CMS and paid subscriptions. I have a strong suspicion these will be released at a later date as paid add-ons. I don't mind supporting the cause of my developers... however, I would be curious to know what features will be included in my $250 and which ones will be considered additional cost.

Some of us have sites where CMS now is very important and with lots of content. For me CMS is crucial, if I cant move easily my content from old to new version than I am not interested in new version...

Look at it this way. If the software does not suite you are present, then dont use it. Everyone upgrades when they are ready to do so, and for yourself that clearly wouldnt be an option until the CMS part of vbulletin 5 is released. At the end of the day we all want stable software, and the less they are concentrating on at once the easier it is to ensure each part is as stable as can be.Comment

Not for you no. For me however I would rather have the forum software without the CMS for now as I personally can live without it as many can. Especially those who didnt have suite.

The reason why most of us have purchased and continue to purchase vbulletin is the continuance that it offers. A lot of us that have a client and user base are dependent on ALL of the preceding features carrying over.Last edited by Azonaco; Tue 18 Sep '12, 1:44pm.Comment

Like other users, my forum depends on advanced content manager and professional (CMS), I hope they work on this in the new version. In my opinion the content manager is a differential characteristics with other platforms. You really need to work more in this area, to improve the version of Vbulletin 4.x.x
