That's actually an interesting perspective. It seems to be, that we would be spending money to REMOVE the most important features and functions of vb. Just doesn't make sense...there are not sufficient features in return to offer value. Unless there are some drastic changes in the near future, vb5 may have just been exactly what IPB and XF were waiting for as each may see increased sales as a result of vb5's mere existence.

vb5 needs some major overhauling it would seem. I've not seen any positive feedback about it other than "I like this very small feature X" (such as the comments system). But no one pays $200 to replace their community with a mere comments system...which is more of a hack/mod that one would expect to find at vb.org.

Yet it's the only option on PURCHASE PAGE. I'm not trying to bust anyone's chops but who in their right mind would buy a beta with half the features, same problem with 100+ queries (vB 4 gold anyone?), washed out look, horrible CSS (the style is applied after the page is loaded and you see un-styled page first).
Speed up your member list page by at least 5x (4.x.x)

You also get vB4 and vB3, and vB2, with your license purchase.

That is good, because I could definitely see buying another vb3 license, but it will take much more before I would buy 5. Honestly, vb3.8 is better than anything else that was put out, so at least I will thank you for that.

That is your opinion, and you're entitled to it.

It is true that it his opinion, and we are all entitled to our own opinions. But that same opinion is shared by the vast majority of vb owners I believe. Throughout the internet, on boards discussing the issue of running communities or vb itself, vb3.8 seems to be the most popular and people seem to think it is by far, the best (in terms of quality and useful features) version of vb. I'd wager that if you took a poll here w/i this very community, you'd find the same results. vb3.8 just had so many things that were done right.

Do you still only get 1 installation total or if I purchase VB5 would I be able to install 5 on a site and then 4 on another site?

The more I used the demo, the more I disliked it.

I did try it, but with the major speed issues and..weird design of the software, it's no longer a product I could or would use, either as a user, or admin.

                    And I've used Vbulletin exclusively since..well, 2002.

I mean I waited for 2 years to upgrade our forums from 3.8 to 4.2, but I know we won't be upgrading to 5 when the 4 series becomes end of life.

VB5 is like, Facebook 0.1 Alpha.

Seems to me they've made the same mistake with VB5, as they did with VBCMS, they tried to reinvent it and have failed rather epically.

Given that the same team who gave us the CMS are on VB5, I guess it's of no surprise.

vBulletin 4 was pre-sold with the understanding that beta glitches would be worked out before launch. That didn't turn out to be true. So... you can understand if people are skeptical about giving vBulletin 5 the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, that seems to be the features for vb5 you must use for vb5 advertising. Ha ha, I we knew that in 2002
