    Speed on page loading

    Hello ,

Is there a specific reason why pages load so slow on vB5 ? I checked it against vBulletin 4 installation on vbulletin.com and vB5 loads pages way slower compared to vB4
Here is a quick video i recorded that can show the slow loading. http://www.screencast.com/t/LyrToslaixm

I noticed that as well. Could it be the server they are using?

It is a beta and hasn't had all its performance tweaking done yet.

Not good to hear that a new rewritten engine still require option optimisations to run fast these days.

Don't understand what you mean... There is still coding work being done for performance. Who mentioned options?

            Hello Wayne ,

Isn't vB5 currently in beta stage ? I , as a customer , will expect a new coded engine run faster if it is put on stage as Beta.
You mentioned optimisations have not been implemented yet. I expect all code optimisations would already exist in code as it is released as Beta and put on Sale now.

Don't know what to say. It is beta. It isn't going to be perfect. Don't buy it until you feel you get value for it. Really it is as simple as that. You asked why it was slower, I told you. If you don't like the answer, I am not going to lie and give you a different one.

The speed on page load isn't very slow, however, what I have noticed is that there's a ton of javascript that's coming in on initial page load - and that isn't too healthy.

                  very very slow.

Understandable as a pre Alpha but I'm not sure I would have released this beta to the general public.

Has the "alpha testers" reported the speed issues?

are you telling me that there's no way of reducing 117 queries?

I'm not a dev to do the change and not a manager too. Only QA.

Whilst this may be so, this wouldn't even pass through my QA criteria, and I'm not even stringent.

Our QA staging servers are not behaving like this beta. It is much slower than even a test upgrade of vBulletin.com. People are looking into to it so they can find out why.

Pretty sure I can tell you exactly why... page renders that require 100+ queries to render are going to be okay if the site is idle. They are NOT going to be okay with any sort of traffic.

To be honest, when the tech person in charge of vBulletin thinks high query counts are okay by any measure, it's not a good sign. I know the vB4 CMS isn't directly relevant to vB5, but the comment is. And yes... a high query count will cause any site using it to be slow with any sort of traffic (like the CMS was pre-caching).

Query count is in no way a misleading metric, in fact it's one of the key metrics to gauge how well the site will perform when it's anything more than idle. The answer to Joe's question about how long it takes to render the page back when he made that post was about 12 seconds (this was *before* the CMS implemented the simple caching system I built for it).
