Indeed... the main page is internally taking 25-27 seconds before it's ready to send the contents to the browser.

I think it's fairly safe to assume it's something that can be fixed. That kind of latency takes a couple minutes to pinpoint (and hopefully fix) if you have access to the server/software

Out of curiosity, how would you approach this issue? Would you look at the network stack configuration? Would you strace particular services?

Well spending about 2 minutes debugging it on my end (not that I can do much without getting on the servers), it looks to *me* like it's something above the application. Load balancers (BIG-IP), Varnish or *maybe* web server. So in this case, I'd first just yank Varnish out of the loop and see what happens (my gut feeling is that is where the problem is).

Shawn already answered, but it really depends on where the delay is coming from. Once you can target the actual delay (php, webserver(s), MySQL, etc) you can start resolving it.

It's how to pinpoint the target of the actual delay that I am interested in.

I remember a higher than usual time to first byte delay in on of my server installations once, and it turned out that it was caused by too many PHP fastcgi processes, which the CPU couldn't handle (nowadays I am using php-fpm which is easier to fine-tune). Back then I discovered it through trial and error; of course I'd have preferred a more systematic approach.

There really isn't a magical formula to pinpoint problems... otherwise servers would just find the problems themselves and fix themselves.

Just need to go digging and look around at things for anything out of the ordinary. Monitoring everything you can proactively is always a good thing. A perfect example... ~6am this morning one of my web servers spiked on it's system load (bottom chart)... and if you look closely at the top chart, you'll also notice at the exact same time, Apache on that server stopped serving requests for a couple minutes.

Ultimately what happened was the load balancers saw the server struggling with something and stopped sending requests to it until it worked itself out. Not exactly sure what the load was from, but it was brief and everything "self healed" so it never was an issue. But the point is that the more stuff you can monitor and get nice charts to compare to historical trends, the better.

So in your case, monitoring things like PHP memory usage, number of processes, etc, etc. would be a good thing.

Well, that's really bad code to use 40 classes in a single tag. How many colors/fonts/sizes/styles does a webpage need? 3 each at the most?

Despite that heavy classing, it looks like some free forum by the look of it - it is very basic with no taste.

Why is there no Forum menu on the top? Shouldn't navigation be easy and simple?

We have same issues with vb4 and wait to be fixed from 28/Jun/10 , OK, I hope to be fixed before the Gold release.

That is not my problem either. You are making a commercial product, so no one has to report the bags. It's you job to test software are fixed them. I will stay and judge from the far. Then I'll make my decision is your product worth paying money?

I kinda give up paying money for a product just to work as an unpaid beta-tester for while. You want my help -you gonna pay me for that.
