When will we see the beta use the database from these forums so we can really compare vB5 to vB4 in layout, speed and compatibility?

vb5Demo will not use this database. We will upgrade these forums eventually though.

Please could you log these in the Tracker, with as much detail as you can?

This is the only way to get them fixed / improved.

But looking at the tracker item, it looks like a beta tester testing the fix has reported it is currently buggy.

Site builder not working, is more than likely either A: a configuration issue, B: an environment issue. That wouldn't make it past QA.

Answer to your question is, very easily. Unfortunately a fix for an item can break an item that was previously working. This is the case no matter what is being developed when it gets to this kind of scale. Happens to me on an almost weekly basis.

Settings -> Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Use Javascript Bundling -> No.

You're server seems to have a drastically reduced query string limit. About 512 characters instead of the default 8192.

Our QA staff are INSANELY hard working group of people. They're amazing at their jobs and what they do. I'd ask you not insult them like that, its really not fair to the amount of hard work and dedication they put into their jobs.

I took one quick look over it and noticed that there's quite heavy use of Bootstrap, and shuddered.

Why would a professional product such as vBulletin even consider implementing Bootstrap code? I don't know how deep the dependence goes on it, but as a developer I won't be touching the new vBulletin. Bootstrap is an amazing piece of open source code which is great, and I take my hats off to the guys who made it but it has no place in something such as vBulletin. There's numerous problems with using it, in particular there commonly being no backwards compatibility when the Bootstrap guys release updates. Are the VB Devs going to screw around with things just so nothing gets broken every time there's a Bootstrap update? Or just rely on an old version of Bootstrap forever? Why not use something more commonly known/reliable such as jQuery UI for many common objects? What about designers who want to implement new Bootstrap features but can't without entirely screwing a default design? There's a million possible scenarios.

Also... There's a tonne of pretty simple validation errors Looks like my main vBulletin forum will be remaining on 3.x until I work out what to do.

I just saw some of the design elements and recognized Bootstrap. Even if it's only the CSS, it would have the same issues as any part of Bootstrap. Checking the CSS source seems to confirm it and it's an outdated version. Why using an outdated version is undesirable: https://github.com/twitter/bootstrap/wiki/Changelog -- the majority of their fixes are strictly CSS related.

Current version of Bootstrap is 2.2.1 and on further inspection, just about every piece of open source code used in vBulletin is relying on old versions, just check: http://www.vbulletin.com/vb5demo/js/footer-rollup.js?v= what concerns me is that vulnerabilities may exist in these. Not to mention the heavy reliance on open source products from a tonne of different locations. Nearly impossible to keep it all up to date.
