5 things i want for Xmas. All in the Activity Module.

The activity stream is the module that has caused me the most pain and headache while trying to use vb5, and to make the pain sharper i got a quote of $1000 to fix it!

    1. Order of Post: what is so difficult about ordering the 10-15 initial post to display chronologically? Its very frustrating that the staff argues that it is chronological when it is not. requested action: make it the order by Time of post work pls

    2. Grouping Posts: If user A make a post in a thread and user B comes along and make a post 15 minutes later in the same thread as it is configured currently you are going to see only a single post for that thread (user B) even when user A post is within your reference period. What is the rational in displaying it this way? The post are independent. The users are independent. i simply don't get the logic of the programmers. Preferred: Just display each post.

    3. User action as Headings: Using user action as heading is just superfluous. The post is going to show it anyway.. whether it is a reply, post, comment etc. the heading should just be the thread or forum where the action was carried out. If the developer really feel inclined to stress a user action like say creation of new topic for example... think of another method...maybe using colors etc. Preferred Action: just set heading to name of thread where user action was carried out. simple.

    4. Show more| Go to post: Show more what is the average post length? maybe a few sentences to a few paragraphs. either way the show more button just wraps the post to a single line to make it senselessly stupid. what information can u get from a single line about a post? how do you then decide if you want to see more or not? i personally feel all the post content be displayed. There are better ways to deal with excessively long posts. post quote length is a recent good one(http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...hreadid=310180) preferred action: display post content in full. discard show more button.

4b. | Go to post: Nice actually but still a bit superfluous as clicking on the heading actually take you to the post. The User interface just gets cluttered unnecessarily with buttons. At most group it together with the conversation toolbar at the bottom of each post. preferred Action: Remove or group with other post controls.

    5. Show quoted text: Time and again some convoluted reasons has been given as to why quoted text are not being shown. Its a discussion forum pls!!! IF user A quotes user B and user C in his post it only make sense to show the quotes. However if user D now in turn quotes user A, he is not necessarily wanting to quote user B and user C as well, Otherwise he would have used the multiquote button. The performance impact is probably correct, but don't forget that after the first 10- 15 post are displayed most users can already pick a conversation/thread to Go to, and very few people ever need to click the show more button. Preferred Action: show quoted text.

If i get the above done i will more or less be totally satisfied with my VB5 product. The activity stream is a window into our forum. I know other users request may differ but at least the above looks like basic minimum to my mind!

i have taken the pain to write this as clearly as i can: i dont have $1000 to fix this and i don't want to go to VB4. i actually like VB5. it feels modern!

i apologize for this long post.

They should be entered here: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/secure/...91&issuetype=4

One item per issue. Once entered the developers can see them.

i followed your suggestions and here are the tracker for each issue...

        1.http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-13459
        2.http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-13458
        3. http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-13457
        4. http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-13456

i hope the developer will now "see then" and wok on it if possible. Don't the developer go to clients site once in a while to appraise their products?
Xmas is still some time to come.
