Here on this site I got a red notification message. When I go to it I got no link. So how am I supposed to read it?

So I have 3 message notifications. Likes and replies to posts I made. How come I can't mark them as read, and my only option is to delete? Maybe I just want to check back later to see what someone wrote... -
Is it true that I need to delete all notifications just so I can get rid of the little red box?
Don't get me wrong, I think notifications are a good idea but can't they just be automatically marked...
