I'm sorry you feel that way. As Paul has mentioned, I cannot respond with "we will look into it" because that would really be a lie - we are unlikely to rewrite the vB5 URL structures to match vBSEO, or anything else.

We might make some of the small improvements that are sat in individual tracker entries....but on the other hand we might not. I have to say that, as a customer, there are other things I'd like to see vB5 focus on, rather than URLs.

At its height, about 10-15% of our customers purchased vBSEO. Pretty much where the numbers come from.

I also do not see a problem with the current URL sceme. The one thing i am really missing is a number based on the id for channels (like there is for posts, e.g. 4042043 for this one). I know there is already a JIRA for this.

Sure there are many important things to focus on at the moment than dealing with url structure. But saying it will be looked into in the future will be a better choice and a response. This isn't an urgent feature but important for many reasons. Especially SEO, the default URL that VB 5.x would use, Google or the webmaster might not prefer to use. Also long URL structure in general is bad. Shorter is the preferred structure for Google. But we can't please each member on how they like the urls to appear so providing a feature like vbseo where you can choose your own url structure is a great choice.

It is extremely unlikely to be looked at in the future, so it'd be wrong of me to post that. There seems to be a suggestion here that it's "good customer service" to provide a completely inaccurate response that will mislead customers and "keep them quiet" for a bit. I'm simply not going to do that. Again I'm sorry to sound harsh but that's the way it is - we're not looking to make vB5 act like it has vBSEO built in. vBSEO is a product from another age, in internet terms, and it has no relevance to the present.

As mentioned, there are various tracker entries for minor tweaks and changes, and those may or may not see the light of day, but there will not be wholesale changes to the existing vB5 URL structure. They are already "friendly URLs", a lot of time and thought was put into them, and whilst they may not be perfect, we aren't going to scrap them and rewrite them.

Mark, you sure a lot of time and though were put in the way urls are structured ? See this thread URL ---> forum/forum/vbulletin-5-connect/ [topic title] could have been --> vbulletin-5-connect/thread/ [topic title]

                Code:
                http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum/vbulletin-5-connect/vbulletin-5-connect-feedback/4042043-its-very-long-time-waiting-friendly-url-http-tracker-vbulletin-com-browse-vbv-4528/
We don't need forum/forum , Google will treat this as duplicate urls because of the way the url is structured.

Well strictly speaking, as I've said before, there is a logic behind it.

                  It's like this:

                  domain/subfolder/content-type/category-title/channel-title/topic-title

                  Which translates like this:

                  vbulletin.com (the domain)
                  /forum (the sub folder)
                  /forum (the content type)
                  /vbulletin-5-connect (the category)
/vbulletin-5-connect-feedback (the channel title, or forum title if you prefer)
/4042043-its-very-long-time-waiting-friendly-url-http-tracker-vbulletin-com-browse-vbv-4528 (the topic title and node id)

Now, this thread is probably not a good example as it actually has a URL in the title - that's going to look messy whatever system is used.

Mark is right, the first "forum" is not generated by the software but is the name of the folder on the server. Vbulletin devs could and IMO probably should have named that folder "support" so you would have www.vbulletin.com/support/forum makes more sense to me.

The devs have no control over the folder location people choose to install their forum at.

The vBulletin Support Forums have always been at /forum so that wasn't going to change.

What's needed is an easy way to rename the content type, so that instead of /forum/forum, you could have /forum/boards or something.

Ultimately it was designed to sit in the root, then it makes more sense. It isn't the big issue some people claim it is though.

I would just remove that extra 'forum' so it is only /forum based on the folder name . Really, i wouldn't want to have a forum url with forum/forum. That is really ridiculous looking URL.

                        I usually use a forum within domain i.e., forum.domainname.com/[topic category]/[topic title]/etc. So now if i installed VB 5.x, it would be forum.domainname.com/forum/forun , really ?
