Haven't decided yet. Depends on what features it brings and how stable the gold release is this time round.

Voted: NO... Use the vbulletin since 2006, last year I gave several chances to try to continue with it ... in recent weeks I have thought seriously about using Xenforo ..Comment

That totally depends on the release. It needs to be a rewrite.
But there also is a major risk of it being another pile of bugs and no interest from Internet Brands to invest in improvement after receiving the cash. I still have unused vb4 licenses, so I'm only buying if I know I will be upgrading.I buy 420 forums

I'll only buy if its a completely re-written program from the ground up. I will not be suckered into another pre-release deals buying software sight unseen or test drove...Comment

Honestly if they value my money spent on the 4.x forum + CMS only then I'll go for it again, otherwise no.Comment

If I continue to see improvement in vB4, I most likely will, assuming no features are lost in transition. I strongly doubt I'll be buying into a sight unseen pre-sale this time around however.Comment

not a chance.
even in the very unlikely event that it turned out to be the greatest product on earth, what i have seen of ib and their corporate credo leaves me with a very distinct desire to ensure i give them not even one penny ever again.Comment

buying "vBulletin 5" is WRONG, I may consider to RENEW/buy "vBulletin" versionless LICENSE
what is point of buying product with VERSION NUMBER, if version number doesn't mean ANYTHING
no roadmap
promises will be ignored
additional payed add-ons introduced at any moment
new version released at any moment with unknown price
of course it make sense for company to trick peoples to buy unknown product line, with unknown roadmap, unknown upcoming features, unknown quality, unknown EOL, unknown support quality and then do whatever they want without risks (all money payed upfront), but why anyone from client side want to follow this licensing scheme that doesn't work and proved to be much worse then previous licensing structure (which is used by all other companies in this market)
Even if they have Kier and original crew back (you can forget about it)... I still think it would be wrong to buy product lines instead of versionless license...
IB itself used yearly licensing scheme for their recent add-on products, so it is better wait a few year and buy vbulletin product only after they will be back to normal licensing.
While they use this scam lisensing scheme, if you really want to get software and cant wait or use alternatives, I can only recommend you to buy lisenses on second hand market (preferably full account and old email access, so you can sell it again).Last edited by lim (x³-7x²) = ∞; Fri 30 Dec '11, 11:57pm.👍 1Comment

If you can afford to wait, then good for you. We have been watching vb going nowhere for 3 years now. If IB doesn't get its act together fast, then I and several other big board owners will be gone. People are heavily investing time in making other software platforms suitable for their needs.I buy 420 forums

Customers are now supposed to just go on blind faith, because clearly vBSI's track record proves they can under promise and over-deliver. lol errr... yeah.
But yes... myself (like many others) are building contingency plans just in case vB5 isn't absolutely amazing (i.e. in my case, it's rewriting 1.2M lines of code I've built around the vBulletin framework for other frameworks). http://cl.ly/3e0w2Z0l2A3k390Y0K09
If vB5 blows us away, all previous missteps will be quickly forgotten... If not, at least we have a plan B we can implement with the push of a button. {shrug}Sphinx Search for vBulletin 4: https://marketplace.digitalpoint.com...tin-4.870/item

I hope vB5 is amazing... but given the track record of the last few years combined with the fact that vBSI employees aren't allowed to even talk about what's might be coming in the future...

I reluctantly voted Yes, with regards to purchasing VB5. The biggest reason why is not VB it self. I agree with many people that have posted here that VB needs alot of work especially in the area of bug fixes. Yes VB continues to fix a large number of bugs with each new version. However, with the pending release of VB5, there should be a greater effort at testing every aspect of the product and to eliminate these bugs prior to the release of the product in the first place.
It amazes me that there doesn't seem to be any core standard with regards to any software release, not just VB. Afterall, when a new vehicle is released onto the market and several bugs or defects are discovered, the company usually issues a recall. Then once the bugs or defects are fixed, then the vehicle is re-released.
Back to the reason why I voted yes. I'm currently investing a small fortune developing a series of plugins that are needed specifically for my needs and each plugin is to be fully integrated with my VB4 site. I cringe the thought of having to spend even more money on starting from scratch.Comment

by pwhiteheadI really don't know what everyone's complaining about. Sorry this forum isn't hack able yet, not many add ons nor themes. Sucks, don't it? Everyone who bought this software knew what they were getting...

by TLMDIt won't be too long until vB 5.1.0 is being released. No, there is no official release date available, but I am pretty sure it won't take six more months or something. Anyways, the release of vB 5.1.0..."Mass bug-fixing"50.00%19"Bug-fixing strictly based on votes"5.26%2"Feature-parity with vB4"39.47%15"Other" OR "Continue the way it was done in the past"5.26%2
