Clicking on a Page Number Crashes iOS App

Posting from my phone now, I'll update this again later.

Using the vBulletin site via their app on iOS consistently crashes on picking a page number.

The vb4.2 feedback thread always crashes the app on my iPhone when I try to view page 3.

iOS is 5.1.1 and app is v1.3

Finally got back to a PC...

I can't figure this one out, but I'm really curious why the app will crash on this thread when trying to go past page 2.

Looks fine until I scroll down to bring up page 3 or click on the '3' at the top of the page.

I'd like to see if someone else can reproduce this before filing a JIRA entry. I've already tried to delete and reinstall the vB app, with no change.

I can replicate this with the vBulletin.com app actually. Page three of any thread.

I tried this with a few dozen apps in the drawer.

I tried it after force-closing all apps.

I tried it after rebooting the device.

            Try this....

            Click on this link: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/prof...do=editoptions

Scroll down to Number of Posts to Show Per Page:

Set this to one of the options that is 30 or more. And save the page at the bottom.

Using the APP, Browse to a long thread, click or scroll to the third page.

When I change my setting to something less than 30 posts, it works fine. The default is 25 posts, IIRC. Normally I have it set to 40 posts per page.

It crashes for me when I do this. I set it to 30 posts, when to the long thread linked above and it crashed the app when I tried to click on page 3.

              Here is the JIRA report.

Michael Mendoza has been assigned this but still is unconfirmed.

Picked up the ticket and fixed it.

If you're curious what caused the problem, it was post #83 in that specific thread. It used a different style of quoting which was not supported by the parser.

That was a tricky one. :P

This isn't the problem at all. I can recreate this issue on any long thread with more than 30 posts displayed per page. Please re-read my post above. Even the thread linked in your reply shows properly if I have less than 30 posts per page.

In the JIRA report above is says fixed for 1.4. Should I petition to reopen?

Yes, since the scenario fixed isn't related to the original complaint or the original recreation steps..

                              Hi Wayne,

In my investigation, there was an error being thrown by the parser for that particular post that had a different quote format. It was trying to get a value that wasn't there. In this case the link.

The reason it was crashing when set to something higher than 30 is because the said post is being loaded sooner than later. If you set the options to display 10 items at a time and just keep scrolling, you'll eventually load the said post (by page 9) and it will crash the app. Just as when you set the limit to 75, the post will be loaded on the first page and will cause a crash.

If you're crashing on other threads, it may be that the other threads have malformed quotes as well. It's the weekend and currently don't have access to code, I'll make sure to check this first thing Monday.

                              Have a good weekend!
