Dataload of mobile skin vs mobile app ?

Does anybody know what the difference in data load is between a forum member using our vbulletin mobile skin (for smartphones) vs using our vbulletin iphone forum app.

Some viewers experience problems with our iphone app - usually related to their handset as opposed to the app - and we encourage them to use our smartphone mobile skin instead - where they don't seem to experience problems.

But one viewer complained that using a mobile skin would greatly increase her data download to her phone - and hence her mobile phone costs for the month (assuming she doesn't have a dataplan with a big enough allowance). Does anybody know how much greater the data download is likely to be for the mobile skin?? Or how we go about working that out?

Apps and skins aren't much modified from the vbulletin originals (just logos, colours, etc) and no special plugins.
    Thx

Well, at least theoretically, the mobile apps could transfer less data than the web-version since all the interface elements are already stored on the phone.
But if the caching is done correctly in the phones browser the static elements on the page should only be downloaded once, and the size of this data isn't that big.

So, in real life, I would guess that the difference isn't that big. But if you really need to know you should test it out.
