I do not know of any way to do this. However this is really a question for Apple.

there is "Subscriptions" but this would require a in-app purchase and therefore the app would have to support it.....

In-App Purchase allows you to sell a variety of digital products and services directly from your app, including subscriptions, extra levels, and additional content or functionality.
This really needs to be made a priority for an update. Tieing in-app purchasing with the Paid Subscriptions feature would give everyone ways to generate more revenue based on customers purchasing access, services or functionality from your site. It would also make the mobile app suite way more appealing to anyone still sitting on the fence.

More revenue for forum owners + more revenue for vBulletin = no brainer.

You're aware you'd also be giving 30% of every inapp purchase directly to apple?

Indeed and there is no way around that. But 70% of a new revenue stream is better than the current 0% coming from IAP. Besides, you could always mark up your in-app offerings to cover any perceived losses.

i believe such concept is possible without inapp subscription.
however, it depends how much can we customize with vbulletin mobile api, or will vbulletin create such api.

                            - everyone can download/install the app from itunes/andriod market
                            - when logging in through the app, modifying the api, it check and detects you are from premium usergroup, then let you login normally and browse the forum through the app
                            - if you are not premium usergroup, the app show you no content or prompt that you are not premium user
                            - you then charge monthly subscription at your forum membership.

Apple opens app nothing appears they think its broken and your app gets rejected..... so not a good solution/idea..... I like the in-app purchase option while Apple takes 30% 70% is better then nothing cause using the user groups way to bypass in-app purchase is probably against Apple Developer agreement and could probably get your app rejected or removed if already in store... so I would rather just go ahead and go the legit way right off the bat.
