    phpbb3.03 to vbul4

im trying to convert from phpbb3 to vb4
first off im backing up the database via backup of the sql database and then importing it into a new one on the new hosting provider
impex is installed when i run it i get all red tables on the first part of the import process

how best is it to backup the database or is there any tips on what i can do ?

    thanks

If you're getting the table names in red then the information in the ImpexConfig.php file is incorrect. Double check the Source information and ensure that the details are correct - including the prefix for the tables if you have one.

The simplest way is to use cPanel's "Backups"

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

the database for the phpbb3 i can only backup via mysql i export it and then import it into a new database
i then altered the impex file to point to that as the source on the same server (the new one) when running first part of import only ranks show up as green..
im tearing my hair out and a complete noobie to databases

              If the table listing says:

              phpbb_tablename

then in the prefix section of the ImpexConfig.php file for the source system, add phpbb_ between the quote marks

thanks for that..think ive got it.
next problem is though which is not related is that when a user recovers password and goes through the process they become banned even though it doesnt show as banned in ban list
but thanks for the help ...half way there now

Make sure the usergroup has not been setup as a Banned group in error via:

ImpEx doesn't import group permissions, so all imported groups will have no permissions. That also means that all imported groups are set as banned groups.

I usually find it easiest to delete the imported groups. That will automatically move all of their users to the default Registered group which already has appropriate permissions.
