Importing More Than One Forum into a New Forum

    Hello all,

I currently own a license for a vBulletin 3.x Forum and a vBulletin 4.x Forum that I just upgraded to vBulletin 4.x Publishing Suite.

The 3.x forum (Threshold RPG forums) is many years old but has thousands of active users and almost 100,000 posts. The 4.x forum (Primordiax forums) is newer and while not as important it also has users/posts we don't want to lose.

I am creating a new forum using the vBulletin 4.x Publishing Suite license, and I'd like to merge both of the old forums into it and then close them down.

How should I go about this?

Is there anything I should do in advance to prep for this in order to make this as easy as possible?

Is there a specific order in which I should do this?

Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

You'll need to do one import fully then clear the Import IDs etc (i.e. run all post-import tools) then start a new import for the second site. Which order you do them is up to you - there's no hard and fast rule on that as all posts etc will be imported with the correct dates for display purposes.
    Vote for:

    - Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe (vB6)
    - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s) (vB6)

Thanks. Do I use the IMPEX import tool or is that only for non-vbulletin imports?

PS... You'll want to import the 3.8 site into the 4.0 one since the vBulletin importer still doesn't support their flagship product. (vb 4.x)

You'll use impex found in your members area

If you'd like a copy of the BETA version of the impex software for vB4 to vB4, you can request it in a support ticket.

thanks but I've moved on, I'm sure I'll never need that now.
I waited a couple years, took to long

Thank you for the offer though

                Seriously?

Ok, actually, I rechecked my version numbers.

Forum #1 (Threshold): Powered by: vBulletin Version 2.3.0

Forum #2 (Primordiax): Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.8.1

What do I need to do in order to get them imported into a brand new vBulletin 4.x w/ publishing suite?

I would suggest upgrading the 2.3 to vb 3.8 and then importing one to the other, then upgrading to vB4.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but would you mind going into a little more detail (step by step perhaps?) for this process?

Do I use IMPEX to upgrade the 2.3 to 3.8?

Once I upgrade the 2.3 to 3.8, how do I import the 2.3 into the 3.8?

Once I am done with that, assuming it works, how do I import it all into my new 4.1.4 vb with publishing suite?

                    Thanks!

You upgrade to upgrade to 3.8.

You then import one of the boards, into the other.

Then you upgrade to vB4, you do not import again.

What is the easiest and safest way to upgrade my 2.3 vb to 3.8?

Can I make a copy of my 2.3 vb somehow first and use that?

We have almost 10 years of posts on the 2.3 vb and I don't want to lose them.

Also, how can I upgrade my 2.3vb to 3.8 without paying to upgrade that license? Or is it ok to do that since I'm only doing it temporarily for the purpose of getting it all imported into my new 4.1.4 license?

The safest way is to make a backup of the database and do a test upgrade first.

If you are referring to your 3.x license, you can't. You would have to upgrade to a vB4 license to get access to 3.8.

My 2.3 forum (Threshold) is running on a 3.x license.

My 3.8 forum (Primordiax) was running on a 3.x license also I believe, but I just upgraded/renewed that one to a 4.x Publishing suite license.

I want to shutdown/delete/get rid of both my old forums, and merge their content into a single, brand new forum (Frogdice) running on my 4.x publishing suite license.

The 2.3/Threshold forum is the most important one, as it has ~10 years of content (I had already merged it years ago from a previous, even older vbulletin license).

The 3.8/Primordiax forum is not as important.

I'd like to keep both, but if it is really a huge pain to do that, I'll just scrap the 3.8/Primordiax one and merge the 2.3/Threshold one into my 4.x Publishing Suite license.

                              So the question is basically:

                              1) If I just merge the vb 2.3 forum into my new 4.x Publishing Suite forum, what tool/method do I use?

                              2) Is it feasible and not insanely hard to merge both of my old forums into my new one? Or is that just going to be a big headache?
