My suggestion (error logging)

I'm starting a new post to reference an idea I posted about here:

My idea was that there should be some sort of error logging when stuff fails to be imported. This way we can go back and try and fix the problems and re-import.

Also, I had a few questions (which I also posted about in the above thread as well) that I was hoping I could get some help with... THANK YOU!

In the second import that I want to do, I have several custom fields inserted to work with hacks that I installed (points system, user comments system, extra profile fields, sub-forums hack). How would I go about importing those?? Will impex detect things like the sub-forums and the extra profile fields? Also, what about the missing user comments from the old import and this new one that I want to do? Since the points system is not built-into vB, I assume i'll have to work on installing one and then figuring out how to copy them over... but the other stuff *is* built in, so it shouldn't be so hard, no?

I am adding the error logging to the phpBB2 importer now.

Though with the numbers you are showing as imported and failed that is looking very valid for posts that were left over from thread deletes.

Sub forums yes, extra fields no.

If you check out :

Lines 83-91 impex/systems/ubb_classic/003.php

That will show you how to add custom fields to the database via ImpEx so its know what's going on.

$this->add_custom_field($Db_target, $tdt, $ttp, 'custom1','Custom Field 1'); 

267-275 show how to add the details for each user.

$try->add_custom_value('custom1', addslashes(trim($userarray[18]))); 

Though for phpBB2 it will be ......

$try->add_custom_value('custom1', $user['XXXX_field']);
