phpbb 2 to VB

I am converting a phpbb2 forum to VB forum, I have both the forums installed in the same database, VB one is fresh where as phpbb2 has around 200,000 posts. Now my question is when I run the modules where the impex will be altering the tables of VB will it also effect the tables of phpbb2 or will my phpbb2 stay intact as it is?

It won't touch or change the phpBB data. It only reads it and imports the info to vB.

Cheers then why is it recomended that you backup your phpbb database and files? I do backup but it says in the impex docs that you might need to restore the database.

Its always a good move to have backups for any reson before you begin doing something like this. Nothing should go wrong, but anything can happen

The only backup recommendation I see in the Impex Docs refers to the vB database and files, although that could be made a little clearer.
