No, you will have issues with that.

Hostgator Customer support says the shared SSL would be fine, anybody else had a similar issue?

You need your own SSL Cert and a Dedicated/Static IP

We have a shared SSL with Hostgator and works perfect for us.

Looks like it has somoething to do with the host itself. I set up with hostgator and the shared SSL works like a charm!
Thank you all for taking time to respond.

I too am hosting with HostGator and want to install the FB App. I have the Shared account with Shared SSL. Are we absolutely sure this will work before I purchase the VB FB App? I can't afford a dedicated account and a static IP.
                    Thank you.

Will someone from VB PLEASE answer this question? I am trying to give you MORE business, but am stuck until I get a reasonable answer.

                      Thank you.

If you will take a moment to read the comments to Zachery you will see that indeed someone with HostGator said it worked like a charm. Also in the install doc it says it is OK, so not sure what your very short answer was supposed to convey.

                          My question still is unanswered.

Then you'll need to ask the person who said it worked fine for more info. Based on what we have trevor gave a correct answer.

On the FB App Setup and Installation instructions on page "3" it states the following:

"(WE RECOMMEND THIS SETUP) You can host your application outside your vBulletin Forum:
                              https://www.any--https-shared-hosting.com/your-site-name/myfacebookapp/
HTTPS SETUP FOR TECHNICAL BEGINNER – INTERMEDIATE CUSTOMERS:
Self-Installation of an SSL Certificate on your server is not recommended for beginner users as it could
break your website. Please contact your website hosting provider to install and configure HTTPS
secure service for your site. Alternatively, we recommend obtaining separate HTTPS hosting on an
affordable, shared HTTPS-enabled hosting provider. The Facebook application has minimal computing,
bandwidth and file storage requirements, a small shared HTTPS hosting account that allows PHP
                              execution will work just fine."

Is the above correct or incorrect? It states that a "shared https hosting account" that allows PHP execution will work just fine.

                              Thank you.
