In vb3 you can open a single post by clicking on it's number, I asked and was told that in vb4 that feature has been lost and the entire thread opens like in phpbb.

    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...=1#post1990950

I have a large database of scans and it would be really helpful if the previous functionality was returned.

    thanks

showpost.php has been removed for SEO reasons and I don't think it will come back.

It could be used, just add a nofollow to the links to it.

It add's to duplicate content, I'm guessing that is why it was removed.

For this, the best best is to look at vbulletin.org for an addon that restores the functionality.

I was glad when this was changed, but I can understand some people would like to see the feature.

This should be easy to do as a template modification.

For example, to view post #421 in a thread, I did this:
                http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=345398&perpage=1&pp=421

I'm also happy to see this gone. I actually did something like this already for my own site.

If they would make it configurable so the admin could decide what's best for the site, maybe that would be helpful, that ability to open a single post is very important for scan databases, otherwise your opening a whole thread of graphics which is what phpbb does.

I'm not running vBulletin 4, otherwise I'd come up with the necessary 2-3 lines of HTML and post it.

It's not hard, and does not require a modification at vBulletin.org. It's a simple template mod.

2-3 line HTML template mods should be posted at vbulletin.org as well. They even have specific sections for template modifications. Basically anything we are not going to support but modifies the software should be posted there. We wouldn't support this change.

We haven't support anything but basic template mods since vBulletin.org was created. You know this.
