[Forum] notifications, but empty moderation queue

I keep getting e-mail notifications about new items waiting to be moderated, but the moderation queue is empty all the time when I check. It has just started a week ago or so without any changes in the backend settings.

The e-mail notification reads: "The moderation queue on [[ name of the boards]] has items waiting to be moderated."

Does anyone have an idea what might cause these obviously false notifications and how to stop that?

Are there any queued emails showing on the front page of the AdminCP?
