[Forum] I have 2 installations on 1 domain and my /forum/ directory redirects to /forum/forum/

No problems with my main vB5 installation /forums/. But I have a vB4 installation on the same domain and if I try to access it via typing the URL or via a browser feature like History, I get taken to a directory loop. I can access it just fine via some hyperlinks (and not others). I am however able to access the admin CP by typing the URL and then click the forum home in there to access the frontend forum.

I've tried with the .htaccess file removed and also tried changing my cookie path from /forum/ to / but that changes nothing.

How do I fix this?

The forum issue I got to work by installing the do_not_upload /forum/ folder inside the /forum/ folder. Getting the links to work for blog & cms is problematic however I set the site name / URL and the blog/cms options.

In theory there shouldn't be any conflict here if vB5 is in /forums/ and vB4 is in /forum/

All you have to watch is that vB5 uses /forum/ in its URLs, but in this case that should be /forums/forum/ so shouldn't cause any issues.

That may cause issues because vB5 needs to use /forum. Though you can actually change this by editing the path for the forum channel in vB5's site builder.

Interesting. Not sure what cookie setting would be better on vB5 though as it only suggests "/" and the instructions tell me to have "/" at the end. The forum cookies for both are working ok for me with these settings. But I'm trying to bypass cookie issues for the blog/cms by having them inside vB4's forum directory but editing the blog/component URLs have no affect, neither do the hover state navbar tabs links change. At this point I just need the navbar tabs to actually link to https://mvhaven.com/forum/cms/content.php and https://mvhaven.com/forum/blog/blog.php instead of https://mvhaven.com/cms/content.php and https://mvhaven.com/blog/blog.php then I should be good to go.

And it's vB4 I'm having the issue on. vB5 has no problems here.

I was originally trying without adding the /cms/ and /blog/ directories but even trying to use the in-forum files, those links would always redirect that way.

Oh and if I do put /cms/ and /blog/ in root, they're just white pages anyway for some reason.

This isn't really a supported configuration to be honest. The two installations really need their own separate directories. Effectively you're trying to run one inside the other and it simply isn't going to work properly.

You do need separate cookie prefixes on both installations, remember on vB5 they are also set in two places (both config files).

I'm talking about the physical locations here.

If you have vB5 in the root then having vB4 in /forum/ is going to cause issues.
If you have vB5 in /forums/ and vB4 in /forum/ then everything should be ok.

Again I'm talking physical folders on the server here, not redirects and other trickery.

There is no forum installed at mvhaven.com root. I have vB5 in mvhaven.com/forums and vB4 at mvhaven.com/forum. vB4 is where I'm having the issue getting blogs and cms correctly linked in the nav tabs. No issue with vB5 except what I said about the cookie path being set to "/" because it didn't suggest /forums/ and if I set /forums/ as a custom I can no longer access the admin cp. But I didn't say my forums were actually installed in root.

As it is I'm able to log in and out correctly on both forums. I just need my vB4 cms/blog tabs to point correctly.

Should be:

Yeah, those URLs are what I tried first. I resorted to these after those didn't work for some reason and insisted on defaulting to /cms/ and /blog/ directories. But thanks for verifying, I'll remove those folders.

You'll see if you click on those in your post that's the resulting behaviour.
