Running suPHP?

I have a leased dedicated server and recently received a notice from lad (firewall) of suspicious process running. I asked my server management folks to investigate. Unfortunately they could not determine exactly what may have caused the suspicious process to be running. However, they did suggest that IF my forum was compatible, that I should consider running suPHP (Single user) instead of cgi as my PHP handler as it will not allow processes to run under "nobody" but rather run under the user that owns the process, thus making tracking down such issues easier (they say). Anyway, can anyone tell me if suPHP would be ok to use with Bulletin (Version 4.2.3 patch 2) and PHP 5.6.30. It sounds like suPHP would be more secure, but not sure I should go there unless vBulletin will run adequately. Anyone running 4.XX with suPHP as your PHPO handler?

Properly installed, it shouldn't affect vBulletin. vBulletin doesn't care about, or even know about, what user the operating system uses for running PHP. There should really be no change in operation.

The only caveat is storing files in the file system. Attachments, avatars, signature pictures and profile pictures can all be stored in the file system. You would need to make sure these directories, all subdirectories, and all files within them are accessible and owned by the new user that suPHP will use to access them.
