How to change attaches upload server

Is it possible to define that when a member uploads a file from his PC or even uploads by URL, this file be uploaded on another server we have?
Imagine I have a shared hosting server and a download server. I want to run my forum on shared, but want attaches be uploaded on the download server.
As far as I know, attaches are put into the database (I'm not sure that's correct).
So if that's right, then I need a download server which supports remote sql, and do something in both servers, connect both and create an attachment table in database, and things like this, is that right? And also how stable it is, constantly working?

Attachments can either be stored in the database, or local file system.

There is no option to store them remotely, although you could use nfs or something similar to map a remote server folder to a local one.
