which vb4 to use?

hello,
i noticed these versions got complicated lately.....i was running 4.2.4beta1
which was considered stable and the one with the mariadb10 support and such

now i see the only 4.2.4 available is the unstable beta3 which i see at least some ppl had issue with so its confusing..

is 4.2.3 pl2 the new 4.2.4beta1? or is beta3 the same, basically considered stable like beta 1?

also was confused because whatever that lost attachment issue was during upgrading wasnt that needing direct to 4.2.4 to avoid? or was that 4.2.3 being ok...or the patch versions and betas, ya just confused thanks

All Betas are marked as unstable in the downloads area, they always have been, only final versions are classed as stable on that system.

The lost attachments was due to a bug that was fixed in 4.2.3, that exposed what presumably was a bug in attachments years ago causing very old attachments to be incorrectly marked as not in use. Originally a step was added to fix attachments in 4.2.4, but that was actually copied over to 4.2.3 as well a while back.

good to know thank you....one project is an old large board vb3 upgrade, so that will def be relevant...

i realize that betas are marked unstable as a regular policy, but i am confused of the beta3 because it is new....

beta1 was well known and talked about to be suitable for production environments and favored over the 4.2.3 line, but im not sure about beta3...seems more likely pre php7 support or such?

how would you compare 4.2.4 beta 1 and 4.2.3 pl2?

i assume 4.2.3pl2 is actually after 4.2.4 beta 1 in terms of the more functional/stable version but im still a bit confused...is correct?
did 4.2.3pl2 include those beta 1 supports like mariaDB?

There is no php 7 work in the 4.2.4 Betas, thats coming in 4.2.5 Alphas.

The 4.2.4 Betas should be fine on a live site, but you must be running at least php 5.5 (However, 5.6.x is recommended).

im still a little confused of the pros and cons of 4.2.3 pl2 vs. 4.2.4beta3 tho

if anyone can clarify some will probly be helpful for some people...
